Since January 2008 the State Institution “Oncology Institute of the Academy of Medical Science of Ukraine” has been a part of the Ministry of Public Health with the new name “National Cancer Institute of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine”.

The National Cancer Institute of the MPH (Ministry of Public Health) is situated at the address: Kiev, str.Lomonosov, 33/43. The facility of this importance is unique in Ukraine. Children from all over Ukraine get a referral to come here for medical treatment. Very often with advanced tumors. 

In 1968 the Oncology Institute buildings were constructed in Lomonosov Street. In the neighborhood there were finished the administrative building, the laboratories, the policlinic (out-patient), the hospital (in-patient). So the Oncology Institute (which had stayed in a small building before) moved in it in Lomonosov Street in May 1968. Originally children’s beds were scattered in different Department of the hospital. In 1969 the Children’s Department was created as a separate unit and consisted of 5 beds. Gradually the Department was enlarged and now consists of 40 beds. 

At the moment the Children’s Department contains 4 wards each for 5 patients and 5 wards each for 2 patients. One ward has been re-equipped as a transplantation isolation ward with 2 beds. 

The Department has a treatment room, a dressing ward, a separatory ward, a kitchen, a play area, and sanitary purposes rooms. In the policlinics there is a reception office. There is a guest house with family rooms to host 20 people at a time. The Children’s Department has its own operating room, its own computer tomography scanner. 

The Children’s Department consists of the following staff: 4 doctor-oncologists, 5 research officers. Every year 300 children from all the regions of Ukraine undergo treatment here. The age range of patients vary from 0 to 18 years old; all kinds of significant malignant tumors. At the office of counseling reception there are 3 500 registered visits annually.

The first head of the Children’s Department was Voynov Yevgeniy Aleksandrovich. The main responsibility of the Department head is scientific study. The direct functioning of the Department is conducted by the Department Director. These important positions were occupied by:
