Word combination "CHILDHOOD CANCER” can hardly fit into the consciousness of any normal person. The first question: “Do children ever have it?” staggers with the answer: "Yes, they do".

The concept of incurability of children with cancer is connected with the history of doctors’ persistent struggle against these killing diseases.

At the end of the 70s last century there took place a breakthrough in possibilities of childhood cancer treatment. Due to discovering new medical agents from the cytostatic drugs class (medicine killing cancer cells), modern medicine achievements, the newest elaborations of treatment protocol, effective drastic pharmaceutical drugs which are successfully used here, selfless labor of doctors and medical staff, constant care of parents – there are more and more children who are out of hospital after active medical treatment in the condition of stable remission. Though we must confess that diagnosing, patient care level and hospital conditions don’t always meet the best standards in the world.

Parents unite so that they could share their sorrows and hopes, support each other in difficult moments, rejoice together in case of a successful medical treatment and help return to life in case of the loss of their child.

Work of the Childhood Parent Organizations here and in other countries of the world varies because of psychological differences of parents themselves. In our country people are more characterized by having a passive position and subconscious confidence that others are obliged to help them; but it is more difficult for people of our social and economic structure to take actions themselves. In other countries – everything is quite the contrary - people unite themselves, assign responsibilities, find out what might be done, help each other without expecting aid from the government. On the other hand, we admit that governmental and public structures there are better organized, have wider authorities, receive incomparably larger financial support, because charity in advanced western countries is on a much higher level.
